Adventure Holidays

Croatia is the ideal destination for an active holiday. The varying landscape offers diverse and challenging experiences. The Adriatic Sea is ideal for sport fishing, sea kayaking, diving and snorkelling, while the pristine hinterland provides opportunities for walking, hiking, cycling, and rock climbing. Here you will also find Croatia’s coastal rivers flanked by green banks and karstic canyons ideal for kayaking or rafting, superseded only by the more challenging interior rivers.

Discover Croatia Holidays can organise all aspects of your active holiday or alternatively can arrange an active component as a supplement to your leisure holiday in Croatia.

Diving

Dive in! You will be surprised to find what the Adriatic Sea hides beneath its surface...

Croatia has thousands of great dive spots, including reefs, wrecks and secret caves and grottos.

Sport Fishing

We can recommend Opcija Tours from Split if you'd like to spend some time fishing in the fabulous Adriatic Sea.

"Explore with us the true nature of the Adriatic Sea and its plentiful marine life. Due to great amount of salt in the Adriatic sea, fish in Dalmatia is one of the most tasteful fish in the world. We will hunt in the morning and spend an afternoon barbecuing your catch on an island in a restaurant with great local wines."

Rock Climbing

rock_climbing_croatia

There are a number of great rock climbing destinations within Croatia, with most located in the hinterland. The coastal mountains are composed of karst, a highly porous limestone that makes for wonderful rock climbing. Paklenica National Park is the best known location for rock climbing, with approximately 400 climbing routes of varying degrees of difficulty to suit everyone from beginners to seasoned climbers. The most famous is the 350m high cliff face known as Anica Kuk. Baska on Krk Island is another destination you might consider. The mild-climate of the island allows climbing on the rocky range framing Baska beach all year round. Biokovo, the wall of mountains between Baska Voda and Mt Biokovo behind Makarska, has routes that range from 200m to 400m. The most important feature of these mountains is that the highest mountain region is not a ridge but a high plateau (up to approximately 1700m), a very complicated relief, with many gorges, peaks, caverns and spurs.

Sea Kayaking sea-kayaking-tour-dubrovnik

Sea kayaking is pleasant in Croatia as the islands are small, lush, sparsely populated and lie close to one another. Kayaking is best in summer when the weather is warm but be wary of the midday maestral winds, the cold northern bura and the southeastern jugo winds. The Elafiti Islands comprise 13 islands of which only three are inhabited; Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan. Kolocep’s main features are its pebble beaches and dense forest interspersed with vineyards, olive groves and citruses. Lopud is car-free and is characterized by a rare white-sand beach and 16th century churches and monasteries. Sipan’s significance derives from its place in history as a holiday destination for the aristocracy of Dubrovnik who built their palaces on this island in the 15th century. The Kornati Islands consists of 89 (for the most part) uninhabited islands. The scenic beauty among these islands is breathtaking. An experience not to be missed. Apart from these island archipelagos there are other sea kayaking routes in Croatia.

River Kayaking / White Water Rafting white_water_rafting_croatia

Kayaking and rafting the rivers of Croatia is a wonderful way to experience the unspoiled Croatian interior. The best time to river kayak is in the spring and early summer when the river flow is highest. Mrzenica is one of four rivers in the region of Karlovac. Mrzenica is known for its waterfalls separated by stretches of calm water. This river is also great for a swim in the warmer months. Dobra River is regarded as one of the best white water rafting spots in Croatia. Surrounded by mystifying canyons and green banks it is truly a sight to behold and an experience to remember.

River Una forms the border between Croatia and Bosnia and is great for rafting. Downstream from the Strbacki Buk waterfall you’ll find the best conditions for white water rafting, especially when the water levels are high. The Cetina River is 100km in length from the foot of the Dinara Mountains to the Adriatic Sea near Omis. The banks of this river are dense with native flora, cliffs, waterfalls and caves making the journey unforgettable.
